HARWICH REDOUBT FORT, Essex
- ghostly figures, a decapitated soldier, unexplained footsteps and more -
FRIDAY NIGHT EVENT
NEW LOCATION
Dead Haunted are pleased to offer you our first ever investigation at what is not only a historical location, but one that is well known for its paranormal phenomena; HARWICH REDOUBT FORT, Essex.
HISTORY
The Harwich Redoubt Fort was constructed in 1808, to shore up the defences around that area from the threat of invasion by Napoleonic forces. As well as hefty canons, Harwich Redoubt was also home to a garrison of soldiers who manned the fort. The strategic position of the fort - essentially it sits in a 'bowl' - meant that only a small portion of the fort was visible, giving a false impression of size to would be attackers. Prior to Harwich Redoubt being constructed, a long standing property - known as 'Hill House' - had to be demolished. Nowadays Harwich Redoubt Fort houses a museum, which displays canons, uniforms and other militaria associated to the area and the fort; this could prove even more interesting for our investigation, as some believe that residual energies of those once living can still be present in such items.
It is apparently the largest ancient monument being privately restored in the UK, by the Harwich Society.
GHOSTS & HAUNTINGS
This place is huge. With so many places to explore, so much history and loads of museum exhibits, we are bound to bump into some of the activity which has seen Harwich Redoubt Fort become a favourite with ghost hunters.
THE HEADLESS SOLDIER
Reports suggest that when some of the big guns were being placed within Harwich Redoubt Fort, one of them slipped from its mooring on the lifting mechanism. The result of this was disasterous, as one poor soul found out to his cost; the loose canon took his head off.
This forlorn, headless figure has been seen on a number of occasions within the fort. Will he be there during our investigation?
THE UNEXPLAINED FIGURES
Other mysterious figures have been spotted within Harwich Redoubt Fort, although no details of who these could be are known; the fort had many soldiers stationed here...could these sightings be connected?
THE MYSTERIOUS FOOTSTEPS
Mysterious footsteps are often reported within the fort. When people have investigated where they are heard coming from there is nobody in sight; the footstep sounds seem to vanish into thin air.
OTHER REPORTED INCIDENTS
