Dr John Callow is a writer, screenwriter, and historian, specialising in Seventeenth Century politics, witchcraft, and popular culture. John's impressive qualifications include:

B.A. 1st Class Honours Lancaster University, 1993
MA with Distinction Durham, 1994
Queens Award for Best Qualified Postgraduate, Lancaster University, 1994-95
Doctorate, Lancaster University; 1998.
Taught at Lancaster University and Goldsmiths College, University of London.

 

Since February 2006, Director of the Marx Memorial Library, London.

 

He is the author of the following publications:
'The Making of James II' (2000)
'Witchcraft & Magic in Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century Europe' (co-author with Geoffrey Scarre, 2001)
'King In Exile' (2004)
'James II - The Triumph & the Tragedy' (2005)

 

He has appeared on programmes and radio shows for RTE, ITV, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, BBC Radio 3, Radio 4, and the World Service. He has lectured at Lancaster University, Goldsmiths College, Wuhan University, and the Peace Institute Ljubljana. John is currently Director of the Marx Memorial Library, and is working on 'Embracing the Darkness - a Cultural History of Witchcraft' (for I.B. Tauris) and a study of the Bideford Witches.

 

As you can see John is no stranger to the Lancashire region, home of the infamous Pendle Witches.

In October 2009, John Callow was the historian and witchcraft expert for 'Most Haunted-LIVE: 8 Faces of Evil' from Morecambe Winter Gardens, Lancashire.
